Abstract
This study analyzed the effect of welfare perception and welfare status of the aged on the private welfare activities using the data of the Korea Welfare Panel of 2010-2014. Panel logit analysis and panel tobit regression analysis were used to conduct the study. Firstly, a hypothesis about the crowding out effects of the public welfare on the private welfare is unexpectedly not supported in this study because the receipt of public assistance made the aged positively participate in the private welfare activities. Secondly, the effects on the elderly``s private welfare activities differ on volunteer work and donation participation of the aged, showing that the status of public pension only has positive effect on the donation participation and public assistance only on the volunteer work. Thirdly, welfare perception has negative impact on the number of volunteering, which implies the expansion of public welfare would decrease the elderly``s willingness to participate in the volunteer work. The results implies the public welfare and the elderly``s private welfare activities are in the complementary relations.
